Besiktas ‘trying very hard’ to sign Demarai Gray from Everton amid verbal agreement with Fulham

Besiktas are “trying very hard” to sign Demarai Gray from Everton after a verbal agreement with Fulham emerged, according to Milliyet.

Writing on their official website (1 August), journalist Serdar Sarıdağ reports that the Turkish club want to solve the issue for their winger position “as soon as possible”.

The club have reportedly been trying to sign the Jamaica international “for some time“, but they are currently behind Fulham in the race for his signature after Sky Sports reported a verbal agreement for him to move to London.

“They are trying very hard for Gray from Everton,” he wrote.

“Besiktas should solve the right-wing incident as soon as possible. Senol Gunes is looking cold towards Klassen from Ajax. Lanzini is ahead in the current table. Better names are also being looked at.”

Inevitable

You could make a very good argument that Gray was the best attacker in the Everton squad last season, especially when you consider that he played out of position as a number nine for most of it.

So it’s baffling to see that Sean Dyche is willing to let him leave the club as he enters the final year of his contract, especially when we’ve struggled to make any additions to the front line as it stands.

Arnaut Danjuma has already signed on a season-long loan deal, while Youssef Chermiti is set to undergo a medical ahead of his £14.9m move from Sporting later this week.

But Gray’s versatility and the fact he is proven in the Premier League make him a fantastic asset and he would be a huge loss to this Everton side at this stage of the season and transfer window.

Besiktas face a tough task convincing him to make the move to Turkey ahead of staying in the Premier League, but with Wilfried Zaha recently doing just that he could well do just that.
