Everton need to find perfect deal to seal Joel Piroe transfer this summer

If Everton want to find an agreement for Swansea City striker Joel Piroe this summer, it will have to be the “perfect deal”, according to Swansea captain Matt Grimes via BBC Sport.

Grimes has revealed that he feels sorry for Piroe at the moment, given the amount of speculation that has surrounded his future at Swansea, with Everton, Leeds and Southampton among the clubs interested in signing the Dutch forward.

Everton’s interest in Piroe was most recently reported by CBS journalist Ben Jacobs via GIVEMESPORT [31 July], where it was shared that a £15million price tag might put the Toffees off of a move.

Speaking to BBC Sport ahead of the coming Championship season, Grimes shared: “He [Piroe] is such a good player, such a good lad, I actually feel a bit sorry for him with the amount of speculation that surrounds him all the time.

“It’s warranted because he scores so many goals. If someone comes in and takes him from us, it has to be the perfect deal for him and the club, similar to the way Flynn [Downes] left, there was no animosity at all.

“He’s a fantastic footballer and a great guy and if he’s here absolutely brilliant and if someone comes in, then that’s footy.”

Grimes is right, Piroe is excellent

Everton’s pursuit of the Dutch striker has come as no surprise this summer, after he excelled in back-to-back seasons with Swansea, scoring 22 goals in the 2021/22 season, and then 19 in 2022/23, attracting interest from a number of top clubs in the Championship and Premier League.

The Toffees have been looking to strengthen up front with Dominic Calvert-Lewin continuing to struggle with injury issues, while Neal Maupay cannot be trusted to deliver in front of goal on a regular basis. Piroe, meanwhile, would guarantee goals.

Everton have recently agreed a fee to bring Sporting striker Youssef Chermiti to the club but reports share the club will continue to target forwards as Dyche looks to improve on the side’s goalscoring potential.

If Piroe does stay at Swansea this season, it will be a huge boost to the club who have already had their manager poached by a relegated Premier League side, as Russel Martin made the switch to the South Coast, joining Southampton.
