Ian Ladyman shares ‘scary thought’ about Everton after visiting new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium
Ian Ladyman has shared a “scary thought” after visiting the site of the new Everton stadium ahead of the start of the new season.
Writing on page 75 of the Daily Mail’s print edition on 11 August, the journalist described the Bramley-Moore Dock facility as an “impressive gateway to the city” for people on arriving on the water.
But he added that he hopes the stadium will be hosting Premier League football when the Toffes plan to open it next year after struggling in the league over the past couple of seasons.

“I had a walk from the centre of Liverpool to the site of Everton’s new stadium about a month ago and it’s easy to see what an impressive gateway to the city it will be for those arriving on the water,” said Ladyman.
“I just hope it will still be hosting Premier League football on the day it opens next year. Everton only stayed up on the final day of last season, and since then Sean Dyche’s squad has got worse.”
A concern
There will definitely be a slight concern amongst those that have an affiliation with Everton about the club’s chances of playing its first game at the new stadium while they’re still in the Premier League.
The past couple of seasons haven’t been anywhere near good enough for a club of the Toffees’ stature and that really has to change.
The new stadium looks like an incredibly impressive facility and it will be a historic day once it does open, but the club can’t afford to not be in the top flight.

Ladyman is right to highlight that the squad isn’t looking in the best shape, though, as the signings they have made so far haven’t added too much to the group that has underwhelmed in recent times.
But perhaps Sean Dyche has been working hard behind the scenes on the training ground to get them more organised and harder to play against after undertaking his first pre-season at the club.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have agreed a big-money deal to sign a new forward.
