Tony Cottee slams Everton live on talkSPORT as ‘firefighting’ transfers verdict shared
Everton are “firefighting” when it comes to the players they are signing this summer, according to pundit Tony Cottee.
The Toffees have brought in Ashley Young on a free transfer and Arnaut Danjuma on a season-long loan from Villarreal so far.
The Merseyside outfit avoided Premier League relegation on the final day of the season last time out, finishing two points above the bottom three.

“What sort of season are Everton going to have?” Cottee said live on talkSPORT. “They haven’t won a trophy since 1995. Not good enough by the way for Everton Football Club, not good enough.
“The transfers show you where they are. They are not in the market to get the players that they need to get into the top half of the table.
“Ashley Young is reliable, but it tells you everything. They are firefighting at the moment.”

Worrying times?
Everton have brought in two decent signings so far this summer, and are looking very likely of securing a few more before the window closes.
It is unlikely, however, that any other additions will be available for the club’s Premier League opener at home to Fulham on Saturday (12 August).
The likes of Dele Alli, Jarrad Branthwaite and Tom Cannon meanwhile have all returned from their respective loan spells, and all three could feature under Sean Dyche over the coming months.
But the Merseyside club have also lost a handful of players, with Yerry Mina leaving Goodison Park following the expiry of his contract and Conor Coady returning to Wolves following his Toffees loan spell.
Ellis Simms, Tom Davies, Asmir Begovic and Andros Townsend have also all moved on, leaving the man in the dugout with plenty of big decisions to make between now and the end of the transfer window.
In other Everton news, Dyche has delivered a Toffees transfer update amid an “imbalance” at the Goodison Park club.
