Mark Lawrenson shares what he’s heard about Dominic Calvert-Lewin, predicts result of Everton v Fulham

Mark Lawrenson has predicted the result of the opening Premier League game of the season between Everton and Fulham, and shared some Dominic Calvert-Lewin news.

The Toffees will host the west London club in the season opener on Saturday (12 August), looking to claim three points to open the season after narrowly avoiding the drop last season.

And Lawrenson, speaking to Paddy Power (11 August), has revealed that he has been told Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be fit for the game, but is still expecting a boring 0-0 draw.

“I’ll go for a bore draw here,” he said.

“I’m told Dominic Calvert-Lewin is fit. Fulham had a really good season last year and they haven’t really lost anyone other than Willian yet. They’ve got a good manager but this might be a tough watch. Everton 0-0 Fulham.”

Winnable

Despite knowing for years that we need to find proper reliable cover for Calvert-Lewin to avoid problems with his fitness as the season progresses, Everton are yet to do that in this transfer window.

So hearing that he should be available for the opening game of the window is a huge boost for the club and for Sean Dyche, as we look to get off to a strong start.

Fulham at home is a game that we will look at on the calendar and see as winnable, especially with Dyche having a whole pre-season to work with the players and with them having their own issues during the summer.

A fit Calvert-Lewin swings this game in our favour, so hopefully he can get a goal and make Lawrenson wrong about his pick nice and early on.

If not, then it could be a sign that we’re in for another long slog of a season and that reinforcements are still needed before the window closes.
