Everton sign Jack Harrison from Leeds United on loan

Jack Harrison “has now moved to” Everton on loan from Leeds United, according to The Telegraph.

Mike McGrath reported on the newspaper’s website on Sunday (13 August) that the Toffees have signed the 26-year-old winger, with the Englishman having a medical at the club after his release clause was triggered, and “initially, he will arrive on Merseyside on a loan”.

The deal is apparently done so Harrison joins Arnaut Danjuma, Youssef Chermiti and Ashley Young as Sean Dyche’s additions so far in the transfer window.

Dwight McNeil’s preseason injury, coupled with the 1-0 defeat against Fulham in the Saturday opener despite dominating the play appear to have pushed this move forward, although Harrison is himself not fit to feature.

Action

The benefits don’t look like they will be felt until some weeks down the line but this could be a very positive move for an Everton side that has struggled to land attacking targets in recent months.

The Leeds United squad is being picked off following relegation thanks to the loan exit clauses in the deals of most players, and the Toffees have benefited here.

Willy Gnonto also seems squarely in the frame at Goodison Park, but with the Italian teenager one of the few without a release clause that is set to prove far trickier to get done.

Everton

Supporting forward players such as Danjuma and Harrison should help with creation in this Everton side, but with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s fitness worries endless another striker is surely still on the agenda.

Neal Maupay’s luck remains out in an Everton shirt, and the situation is not being helped by the dreadful abuse he is receiving as a result, while Dyche has suggested that new signing Chermiti is one of the future.

Chances need finishing, so the manager and Kevin Thelwell will have to throw whatever ammunition they still have at the transfer market in the final weeks to stock the squad with as much firepower is they can.

In other Everton news, there is “dysfunction” at the club as the pursuit of one transfer target is being worked on without the support of everyone.
