Everton ready third bid to sign Willy Gnonto from Leeds United as £20m news emerges

Everton are preparing to make a third bid to sign Leeds United forward Willy Gnonto, according to iNews.

The newspaper reported on its website on 15 August that the Toffees are still hoping to broker a deal for the Italy international despite the Whites stating he isn’t for sale.

It said the two previous bids for the 19-year-old have fallen below £20million, which is “not close” to a fee that the Championship club would consider accepting.

There have been suggestions that Everton had given up on signing Gnonto after they drafted in his former Leeds teammate Jack Harrison on 14 August, but that doesn’t look to be the case.

The Blues signed the 26-year-old midfielder on a season-long loan and there is a clause in the deal that will allow them to make that a permanent transfer further down the line.

They have been pushing hard to get a deal over the line for Gnonto, too, after The Liverpool Echo reported on 17 July that a bid in the region of £15million from the Toffees had been rejected by the Whites for the forward.

The teenager has been keen on remaining in the Premier League after showing glimpses of his quality last season, where he scored two goals and laid on four assists in 24 league appearances.

It appears as though the Toffees are contemplating going back in with another offer for the Italian, but they will have to tempt Leeds with a few million more if they want to get this one over the line.
