Everton still frontrunners to sign Wilfried Gnonto as Tottenham Hotspur enter race for Leeds United forward
Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Wilfried Gnonto from Leeds, but Everton are still considered frontrunners according to Rahman Osman.
Writing on his personal Twitter account (15 August), the journalist reports that Spurs could turn their attention to the Italy international after selling Harry Kane to Bayern Munich on the eve of the new season.
Everton have had several bids rejected for Gnonto but are still interested in signing him despite sealing a loan deal for Jack Harrison, however Spurs are said to be “not too far behind” in the race for his signature.
“Been informed Tottenham are keeping an eye on Wilfried Gnonto situation at Leeds,” he wrote.
“Everton still seen as the frontrunner but Spurs not too far behind. The Italian wants to leave ASAP.”
Get a move on
If the club are really intent on getting this deal done for Gnonto, then they need to pay whatever it is Leeds want to get it done.
The Yorkshire club have been clear that they don’t want to sell him, but we’ve also seen reports that they have set a price of £30m to let him leave while a loan deal has been mooted as a potential option too.

Obviously that’s expensive considering our financial situation, but for Spurs that is pocket change and if they decide to firm up their interest it will be really difficult to convince him to come here over there.
With that said he will no doubt play regularly here considering how hard we’re pushing for his signature which could be a sticking point, but if we don’t agree a deal quickly then it won’t matter what we can offer because we won’t be an option.
There isn’t long left in the transfer window so the club need to make a decision on if they want him or not, and either pull the trigger or pull out.
