Reporter shares Everton transfer plans after moving for Adams and Gnonto

Everton are likely to conclude their incoming transfer activity with the signings of Che Adams and Wilfried Gnonto if they can get them over the line, according to Jacque Talbot.

The Football Transfers journalist reported on Monday [21 August] that the Toffees have agreed a £15million fee with Southampton for Adams, while they are set to table a final bid of close to £30m for Leeds United forward Gnonto.

In a further update provided on the Football Transfers’ official Twitter page [21 August, 1m 27s], Talbot shared that the potential double deal could conclude Everton’s transfer business for the summer, despite previous links with a new centre-back.

“We understand after that it’s probably business done for Everton barring any late changes, such as if there’s any outgoings,” he said.

A good window?

When also including the signings of Youssef Chermiti and free agent Ashley Young, Everton could end the window having spent around £60m on new recruits, three of those in a troublesome area of the field.

Gnonto and Adams – assuming both deals get over the line – will certainly help to strengthen the Toffees’ rather toothless attack.

But there is also an argument to be made that Sean Dyche is in desperate need of a no-nonsense centre-back to plug a defence that has already shipped five goals in two games this term.

After avoiding relegation by the skin of their teeth last season, a £60m outlay on players, especially having recouped funds through sales of other players, is not likely to be enough to transform their fortunes.

Offloading others, such as Demarai Gray, could free up further cash for Dyche to spend.

If that is the case, Everton must ensure they have options lined up and ready to make their move as they really could do with at least one more player on top of Adams and Gnonto.
