Phil McNulty takes aim at Everton hierarchy over ‘crisis’ developing at Goodison

Phil McNulty has blasted Everton chiefs Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright for the “crisis” they have created at Goodison Park.

The Toffees were hammered 4-0 by Aston Villa on Sunday (20 August) to make it back-to-back defeats at the start of the Premier League season.

BBC journalist McNulty took to Twitter on 21 August to blame the Blues owner and chairman for not learning anything from the past couple of campaigns, where the club were drawn into relegation battles.

He said: “A crisis – if it can actually be called one after only two games – created by those at the top at Everton, chiefly owner and chairman, who appear to have learned nothing and changed nothing from the crises of the previous two seasons that almost ended in relegation.”

On the money

This is a crisis that has been created entirely by Moshiri and Kenwright and questions have to be asked as to whether they are really the right people to take the club forward.

Although McNulty questioned whether you can call it a crisis after just two games, you could say that it has never really ended over the past couple of years despite surviving relegation.

Everton have flirted with the drop for too long now for a club of its size and one of these times it is, unfortunately, not going to have the luck it has previously experienced on the final day of the campaign.

Sean Dyche is working under extremely difficult circumstances at the moment as he desperately needs more funds to improve his squad.

But that doesn’t look to be forthcoming any time soon and the club’s hierarchy isn’t really doing anything to ensure that another relegation battle won’t occur again this season.

In other Everton news, an update has emerged in the Blues’ pursuit of a Euro club’s forward.
