Sky Sports share Everton transfer update as exit fee for Demarai Gray agreed

Demarai Gray and his representatives have yet to hold talks with Al Shabab, despite the fact that Everton have verbally agreed to sell the winger, according to Sky Sports.

Fabrizio Romano first reported on Monday [21 August] that an agreement in principle had been reached between the two clubs.

However, Sky Sports then reported that Everton will wait until a replacement is found before selling Gray, while in a further update on their transfer blog [21 August, 13:35], it was claimed the Jamaica international has yet to discuss terms with Al Shabab.

Everton’s stance clear

Gray’s time at Goodison Park appears to be up, having not been named in Everton’s squad for their opening two Premier League games this season.

The 27-year-old is far from the worst performer in the Toffees’ ranks, but the Merseyside outfit clearly feel they can land a decent fee for the former Leicester City player in order to help finance incoming deals.

The fact Gray himself has not yet talked with Al Shabab, let alone agreed personal terms, rather complicates matters.

It remains to be seen exactly what Gray’s thoughts are among all the exit talk, with Premier League rivals Crystal Palace having also previously been touted as a possible next destination.

Speaking last month, Gray told the Liverpool Echo that he still believes he “can reach big heights”, even if his career has stagnated somewhat.

Joining a Saudi Pro League club would make for a handsome payday, but it would be an underwhelming career move – even if it means playing in the same division as Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Co.

However, with Everton’s stance now pretty clear, Gray must quickly make a decision on his future or else he risks being left in the lurch at Goodison.
