Everton transfer news as Udinese owner considers blocking Beto exit

Udinese owner Gino Pozzo is considering blocking any offers for Everton target Beto, according to Messaggero Veneto.

The local Udine newspaper reported on Thursday (24 August) that no club has yet come close to the £30million (€35m) asking price.

Furthermore, the report adds that any deal for Beto has been complicated by an injury to Brazilian forward Brenner and Pozzo is considering not accepting any offers before the September 1 deadline.

As well as Everton, Serie A giants Napoli, Inter Milan and AC Milan are named as clubs keeping tabs on the Portuguese striker.

Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers reported on Thursday that talks are being held between Everton and Udinese but a deal is not expected to be completed this week.

Tricky situation

There is no doubt Everton still require reinforcements up front, especially after Dominic Calvert-Lewin injured his cheekbone in the 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Aston Villa last time out.

Beto would seem a pretty attractive option for the Toffees given he has scored 21 goals in 61 appearances for Udinese.

But it is does appear a deal fraught with difficulties, which will be a huge source of frustration to Everton supporters, given the deal for Southampton striker Che Adams is also proving more problematic than first expected.

Given the troubles Everton have in the final third, they certainly need to add attacking reinforcements before the transfer window slams shut on September 1, but a deal for Beto might end up being a non-starter.

What is for sure, though, is that the Toffees’ hierarchy must put a huge effort into getting some attacking bodies through the door otherwise another season of struggle will likely be on the cards.
