Everton make approach to sign Danny Ings from West Ham United, Beto deal also all but done

Everton have made an approach to West Ham United about the availability of striker Danny Ings following their for Beto, according to the Mirror.

As reported on their live transfer blog (28 August, 10:05pm), the newspaper claims that Ings is seen as an experienced forward by the Toffees, who is currently “playing second fiddle” to Michail Antonio at the London Stadium.

As Everton are set to finalise their £26million deal for the Udinese striker, Ings, who SixFootTwo claimed (19 January) earns £125,000 per week at West Ham, could be Everton’s next attacking signing.

Strength in depth

While it could be challenging for a side to accommodate such a high number of new attacking recruits, Everton’s desperate need for goals justifies their business.

With Arnaut Danjuma, Jack Harrison, Youssef Chermiti and soon-to-be-announced Beto from Udinese all coming in, Ings would be their fifth attacking player.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin also remains in the fray but continues to nurse a face injury sustained against Aston Villa, so Sean Dyche may soon have plenty of options to play with.

Plenty of options will be needed if Everton are to solve their goalscoring issue. They remain the only Premier League side yet to register a goal, but Ings’ introduction would help to switch their fortunes.

However, a deal for the former Aston Villa man would depend on the Hammers’ remaining business. West Ham currently just have two out-and-out strikers in the squad with just Ings and Antonio.

However, this is likely to change before the window shuts. Gazeta Esportiva reported (28 August) that the Hammers tabled a £15.4million bid for Corinthians striker Yuri Alberto, but it was “immediately rejected”.

Elsewhere, SportZone claimed (28 August) that the Irons had matched Everton’s own £34.3million deal for Paris Saint-Germain striker Hugo Ekitike, so David Moyes’ side remain active for forward options.

Ings would be a reliable option for Dyche and would work well in his system. The 31-year-old has managed 15 goals across 65 Premier League appearances in the last two seasons but is yet to get off the mark in 2023/24.

If given decent minutes, he could recapture his more prolific spell at Southampton and help the Toffees out of their attacking issues.

In other Everton news, Sean Dyche has namedropped Pep Guardiola in his latest Toffees admission.
