Borussia Monchengladbach ready £4.3m Nico Elvedi sale amid Everton transfer news

Borussia Monchengladbach would be happy to sell reputed Everton target Nico Elvedi for as little as £4.3million (€5m), according to Bild.

Transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio reported on Sunday [27 August] that Everton had opened talks with Gladbach over a move for the defender.

Due to Elvedi being out of contract next summer, and the Bundesliga side already preparing for life without him, they are willing to cash in this week.

German outlet Bild reported on their online edition on Monday [28 August] that, while Everton have yet to table an offer, a small fee may be enough to land the centre-back.

For all the talk of a new striker being needed at Goodison Park – rightly so – Sean Dyche could also do with strengthening other areas of his squad.

Everton have shipped six goals in their opening three Premier League games – no side has conceded more – while failing to score any of their own.

They have kept just one clean sheet in nine top-flight games stretching back into last season, meanwhile, highlighting the need to bolster their defence.

Elvedi is an extremely experienced option, having played 270 games for Gladbach across the past eight seasons, including in Europe, while also representing Switzerland at the World Cup and Euros.

When you consider he is possibly available for just £4.3m, this move seems a no-brainer from Everton’s point of view.

In fact, the biggest surprise is that more teams have not stepped forward with an offer for Elvedi, who has showed he is capable of doing a job in an elite European league.

With Beto also set to join from Udinese, it could be a positive final few days to the transfer window for the Toffees.

In other Everton news, the Merseyside outfit are also reportedly eyeing a move for a Tottenham defender.
