Alex Iwobi could ‘certainly’ leave Everton as transfer update shared by Sky Sports man Alan Myers

Alex Iwobi could “certainly” leave Everton before the window shuts but the club aren’t “pushing” to get rid of him, according to Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports journalist replied to a question via Twitter Wednesday morning (30 August) on the future of the Toffees winger to admit there was very much a “chance” that he leaves but a sale isn’t being actively sought out at Goodison Park.

Fulham looked close to signing the 27-year-old until Sky Sports shared a Tuesday update to say they weren’t likely to bring him in this summer, although there are multiple other clubs interested.

The Toffees are thought to want more than £20million to sell the Nigeria international despite him having less than a year left on his contract.

Crucial hours

Sean Dyche likely doesn’t want to lose another attacking option at this late stage with Demarai Gray already expected to go from wide areas.

The Toffees boss has only just managed to stock up in forward positions as the transfer window has gone on, although he hasn’t seen much benefit from it yet as the increased numbers has largely been negated by an injury crisis.

Iwobi hasn’t been the same stand-out he was when he was arguably the star of the Frank Lampard era but he is still an important man at Goodison Park and a regular starter under the former Burnley boss.

Everton

But if the contract negotiations that were long-expected to result in an extension are showing signs of never actually coming off then it is obviously the last chance to get substantial money for a sale.

Maximising the value of any departure is of even greater importance to Everton than most given the financial pressures around the club, and with two loanee wingers brought in – Arnaut Danjuma and Jack Harrison – it would be a lucrative switch to then sell Iwobi and Gray for decent fees.

That would be a short-term solution however, although Dyche has been after other wide options already such as Willy Gnonto and Kamaldeen Sulemana so if he can land one or two more cheaply or on loan there is perhaps scope for extensive activity in both directions at Goodison Park before the deadline.

In other Everton news, a late approach has been made to sign another late addition in another area of the squad from a Premier League side.
