Everton confirmed XI v Doncaster Rovers: Idrissa Gueye axed, Youssef Chermiti handed debut
Sean Dyche has named his Everton starting 11 as he aims to switch his side’s fortunes and progress in the second-round clash of the EFL Cup v Doncaster Rovers.
Dyche has axed Ashley Young, Jarrad Branthwaite and senior star Idrissa Gueye in favour of Vitalii Mykolenko, Ben Godfrey and Youssef Chermiti.
Everton will look to get not only their first win of the season but their first goal. They’ve not struggled to create chances, but Dyche will hope a strong win against League Two opposition can kickstart their season.
Get a goal
While the Toffees will go into this match expecting a win against lower-league opposition, Dyche will be pleading with his forwards to just get a goal.
Dyche has a significant decision to make in terms of his selection up top, but he has given Chermiti and Arnaut Danjuma the golden chance to get the Toffees back to scoring ways.
Everton are not struggling to make any chances and have had plenty of chances to get off the mark. They currently rank twelfth in the Premier League for shots on goal with 43. While not incredible, it’s significantly more than the rest of the winless sides.

Their 43 is nearly triple Burnley’s 15 and over double Luton Town’s 20, so Dyche will feel very disappointed that his side has yet to register anything. (Premier League)
This cup clash is the perfect opportunity to bring some momentum to the side. On paper, the Toffees are capable of a thrashing, even with a slightly weaker side than usual.
Dyche is also lucky to have avoided Tottenham’s misfortune and drawn a tough opponent in the early stages of the competition after they suffered at the hands of Fulham.
A goal is needed first and foremost. But if Dyche can give the fans the emphatic victory that they are capable of, it could do a lot to change the mood on the terraces of Goodison Park.
In other Everton news, the Toffees will have to pay £30million to secure their Championship winger target.
