Everton in talks to sign Maxwel Cornet, West Ham United push him towards exit
Everton are in ongoing talks with West Ham about signing Maxwel Cornet as they push him towards the exit door, according to Ignazio Genuardi.
Writing on his personal Twitter account (30 August), the former editor of Football 365 France reports that the former Lyon winger is no longer wanted at the London Stadium.
Everton are in “ongoing talks” to sign the 26-year-old Ivory Coast international to bolster their attacking options ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.
“Pushed towards the exit by West Ham, the former Messin and Lyonnais Cornet can notably count on the interest of another Premier League team: Everton,” he wrote. “Ongoing discussions.”
Target
Cornet has been a long-term target at Everton and actually turned down a move to Goodison Park last year in favour of a move to West Ham, but he struggled there.
Not only did he not play much, but his injury troubles were huge and saw him miss a massive chunk of the season with a problem that took a long time to be diagnosed at all.

Considering the issues that Everton have with injuries in the attacking department with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, plus the fact Dwight McNeil, Alex Iwobi and Jack Harrison are all currently out then it would be a big gamble to bring him in again.
But with that said Sean Dyche is the man who brought him to England at Burnley and kept him fit for the majority of his time there, and a reunion could be good for both.
A loan deal would undoubtedly make more sense than a permanent deal in this instance, and it’s certainly one to watch in the final days of the window.
