Everton want to sign Maxwel Cornet from West Ham United on loan – Mike McGrath

Everton are exploring a loan deal for West Ham forward Maxwel Cornet as Sean Dyche eyes a reunion, according to Mike McGrath.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (31 August), The Telegraph journalist reports that the Hammers are working on a deal for Serbian Filip Kostic which would open up the door for Cornet to leave.

Dyche and Cornet worked together at Burnley before the boss was sacked and the club were relegated, and reports in France suggest the winger is being “pushed towards the exit” at the London Stadium before Friday’s deadline.

“Everton are exploring a deal for West Ham forward Maxwel Cornet,” he wrote.

“West Ham working on Filip Kostic deal for similar position, allowing Ivory Coast international to be loaned to Everton.”

Sensible

Another forward should certainly be on the agenda and it’s good to see that Dyche and the club feel the same way.

But with other positions also a necessity this summer before Friday’s deadline, a loan for Cornet would make a lot of sense to save on some money.

It’s also worth noting that the player has a horrible injury history when it comes to his career and spending money on him would be a big risk if we’re then stuck with a crock.

Dyche worked with him at Burnley and saw him produce one of the best seasons of his career so they definitely enjoyed working together, and it could be a deal that works for all parties.

It’s one to keep an eye on in the coming hours, especially if there is progress in West Ham’s chase for Kostic as this one will have to move quickly to get over the line in time.
