Middlesbrough want permission to hold talks with Everton striker Tom Cannon today
Middlesbrough want permission to speak to Everton striker Tom Cannon today after tabling a £4m bid, reports journalist Alan Nixon.
Writing on his Patreon account (31 August), the newspaper journalist reports that there is an “extraordinary” queue for the services of the young Toffees ace.
And while Middlesbrough are trying to move ahead of the pack for his services, Preston are not giving up in their chase for his signature while Everton make a final decision on his price.

“Preston are refusing to accept defeat in the chase for Everton striker Tom Cannon,” he wrote.
“North End were first in the queue for the young forward if he went out on loan but they are now trying to buy him.
“Middlesbrough have opened the bidding for Cannon, offering £4 million. They hope for permission to speak today.
“However Preston are trying to come up with a package that will give Cannon a return to the club where he made his name on loan last season.
“The queue for Cannon is extraordinary after just half a campaign in the Championship.”
Decision time
Everton have greatly improved their attacking options since the end of last season, but a few exits now look likely which make this decision even bigger.
After adding Beto, Arnaut Danjuma, Youssef Chermiti and Jack Harrison the club are reportedly eyeing a move for Maxwel Cornet too, but all of Alex Iwobi, Demarai Gray and Neal Maupay are likely to leave before the deadline on Friday.

With Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin also options for Sean Dyche, there isn’t much space for Cannon to get a lot of first-team minutes this season.
However his talent is clear and the club would surely rather loan him out this season than lose him permanently, but the money on offer could be too good to refuse considering our financial situation.
It’s decision time now with the deadline tomorrow at 11pm, and whatever happens they must be ready to stand by the decision and make the most of it. Time is ticking, so it will be interesting to see what happens.
