Tom Cannon wants to quit Everton for good as multi-million bid submitted for him

Tom Cannon wants to leave Everton this summer after Championship side Norwich made a late-window approach for the 20-year-old, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported in their print edition (31 August, pg 69) that the Canaries have submitted a £7milion offer for the striker after an eight-goal haul in the second division last season on loan to Preston North End.

Cannon has been on the radar of many Championship clubs according to The Athletic’s transfer blog (30 August) with Preston, Sunderland and Stoke City previously expressing interest this window.

Loan

For Everton’s financial sake, it may be in their interest to yet again allow Cannon to leave the club on loan again this season to further increase his value.

With the influx of attacking players at Goodison Park, including Arnaut Danjuma and Beto who both netted to rescue the Toffees from an embarrassing early exit to Doncaster Rovers in the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening (30 August), Cannon is unlikely to earn much first-team game time.

However, the Republic of Ireland youth international has proved he can be a useful asset in the Championship, but consistent goalscoring will only boost his value. If he returns for a similarly successful loan this time next summer, the Toffees can command a fee larger than Norwich’s £7million bid.

Everton

That being said, Everton are likely to be considering their FFP obligations. After spending up to £30million on Beto and £15million on Youssef Chermiti this summer, the £7million profit could be significant in easing the pressure.

Most significantly of all, Cannon himself wants a move and he will be unhappy to remain in Everton’s youth sides if he has the chance for regular game time elsewhere, so pressure may be felt to offload the youngster.
