BBC journalist shares what agent of Jean-Philippe Gbamin has told him about last-gasp £5m Everton exit

BBC Journalist Shamoon Hafez has shared that Everton midfielder Jean-Phillipe Gbamin’s agent has told him he has had “no contact from any club” regarding a summer move.

Taking to his personal Twitter account (1 September), Hafez shared the reports that Spanish outfit Cadiz were interested in the 27-year-old defensive midfielder (El Desmarque, 30 August) are “not true”.

According to Gbamin’s agent Bernard Collignon, the Tofees have slapped a £5m price tag on Gbamin but the Ivory Coast midfielder is hoping to find a solution to end his contract.

Hafez wrote on Twitter: “Been told by Jean-Philippe Gbamin’s agent that he has had “no contact from any club” about signing him – Cadiz reports “not true”.”

“Said Everton have put a £5m price tag on him, but the midfielder “hoping to find solution to end his contract”.

Help end nightmare

The Ivorian international was supposed to be the Everton answer to Idrissa Gueye when he left for Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, but because of recurring injury and fitness issues, that £25m Everton spent to sign has now proven an absolute waste.

Gbamin certainly had some talent in him, emerging as a tough-tackling, dominant and assured midfielder who could have provided Everton with the midfield base they desperately needed in Gueye’s absence, but the Goodison faithful weren’t given the opportunity to see it with his freakish and recurring injury troubles.

Everton

Signing Gbamin certainly will go down as one of Everton’s worst transfer decisions over the past decade or so and it’s a good thing that his agent has spoken out regarding his future.

It’s clear both parties don’t want him to take the Goodison Park pitch again, and it’s definitely best for all parties involved that he sets sail elsewhere this summer.

The £5m price tag certainly makes sense with the Toffees desperately looking to recoup some funds on their mega investment but the Blues simply have to find a solution to help Gbamin end his Goodison Park nightmare.
