Arnaut Dajuma slammed live on Sky Sports for what he did in Everton draw at Sheffield United

Sue Smith slammed Arnaut Danjuma for being “so sloppy” during the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United that saw Everton record their first point of the season.

The Sky Sports pundit reacted live on Soccer Saturday after the Toffees’ summer signing from Villarreal aimlessly passed the ball square in midfield, directly to the opposition, in the 12th minute.

The error allowed Blades forward Cameron Archer to set off on a counter-attack that was thwarted by James Tarkowski but Smith wasn’t impressed with the Everton winger for causing it in the first place.

Smith said (12.43pm): “They’ve just had another chance where Danjuma, really sloppy, gives the ball away. Straight away Sheffield United break and it’s into Archer, up against Tarkowski, could have probably shot a bit earlier but in the end good defending from Tarkowski.”

Slack

Danjuma did make amends later in the game with his first goal for the club to equalise in the second half, after Abdoulaye Doucouré’s strike had been cancelled out by Archer and an own-goal off Jordan Pickford’s back.

But his overall performance will need to improve to make a real success of his loan move to Goodison Park after a middling start to life as an Everton player.

A point at Bramall Lane marked a notable improvement following three defeats without a goal but still felt like it was a missed opportunity.

Everton

Sean Dyche needed to start somewhere so at least his side are now on the board and have proven to themselves if no-one else that they can find the net.

Away form has long been a weakness for this team so a goalscoring point on the road is probably not to be sniffed at.

And coming off the back of a somewhat deflating transfer deadline day it was important to avoid losing again, while the addition of Beto up front could prove to be crucial this season.

In other Everton news, Alan Myers has shared an update on whether two Toffees could still leave after deadline day exits fell through.
