BBC journalist shares how much Everton paid Jean-Philippe Gbamin to terminate his contract

Everton did not pay Jean-Philippe Gbamin a single penny to terminate his contract early on deadline day, reports Shamoon Hafez.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (1 September), the BBC Sport journalist reports that the central midfielder did not receive a payout for the final year of his contract.

Both the player and Everton mutually agreed to terminate his deal early so he could find a new club outside of the transfer window. saving the Toffees a year on his wages.

Excellent

It would have been nice to get a fee in for Gbamin but the club managed to bring in around £30m on deadline day with the sales of Alex Iwobi and Tom Cannon anyway.

None of that money was spent as the club failed to make any late signings, and the reality of the matter is that nobody wanted to spend their money on Gbamin.

He has completely flopped in England with just a handful of appearances over several years, and he’s hardly ripped it up while away on loan over the last 12 months too.

Everton

It just made sense for everyone for him to move on and have a free reign over his future, while Everton can cut their losses on the deal a year early and save a bit more cash to aid their financial situation.

It’s a good deal for everyone and we can all try and forget the last four years happened at all now, while our focus turns to avoiding relegation with the squad we have once again.

In other Everton news, the Toffees wanted to hijack a PL club’s move for a new midfielder on deadline day.
