Peter Crouch rages at ‘Shocking’ Everton performance live on TNT Sports
Peter Crouch has labelled the first-half Everton performance against Doncaster in midweek as “shocking” while live on TNT Sports.
The former England striker was asked about the Toffees performance in the EFL Cup as they came from 1-0 down against the team bottom of League 2 to earn a 2-1 win and progress to the next round.
But while on TNT Sports (2 September, 11:59), Crouch labelled the performance as “shocking” and “sloppy” and admitted Dyche had to change things ahead of the clash with Sheffield United.

“I thought first half was really poor,” he said.
“I know he makes changes and there was some young players that came into the side that perhaps wouldn’t start in the Premier League, some of the older players came on and turned it around.
“I did think it was bitterly disappointing. That first half was shocking in actual fact. The fans had travelled and they were giving passes away, the ball was going out of play. It felt like it was sloppy.
“It wasn’t good during the week, no doubt.”
Awful
Crouch isn’t wrong at all, the performance in midweek was absolutely shocking and we were lucky that our quality shone through in the end to get us through.
The performance against Sheffield United however was much better at a tough ground against better opposition, so maybe a bit of slack can be cut for the fact the manager made a few changes in midweek.

But winning is a confidence game and the more you win, the more confident you get, so the cycle continues and in games like the one against Doncaster we can’t take our foot off the gas just because they’re lower league opposition.
Thankfully we got the win and ultimately in a cup competition that is the most important thing of all, because progression is the aim and you can correct performances in the following games.
Dyche has done that against the Blades, so we can look forward to more improved performances after the international break now.
