Mark Chapman wowed by ‘box office’ Jordan Pickford performance for Everton v Sheff United

Mark Chapman was wowed by the performance of Jordan Pickford as Everton drew with Sheffield United on Saturday (2 September).

Speaking on The Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 Live, the presenter said the England international is “box office” at the moment after he pulled off a string of impressive saves in the 2-2 draw with the Blades.

He added that punters would have paid the entrance money just to see the 29-year-old keeper as his performance played a major role in the Toffees picking up their first point of the season.

“He’s just box office at the moment,” said Chapman. “You would have paid the entrance money alone just to watch him against Sheffield United on Saturday.”

Consistency needed

It’s quite a statement from Chapman to say that Pickford would have been worth the money alone punters paid for the game at the weekend.

Pickford’s performance was excellent and there’s no doubt Everton wouldn’t have earned a draw without him, but his side desperately need him to find some consistency.

The keeper didn’t have the best start to the season in the opening few games after he was at fault for a couple of the goals against Aston Villa and was questioned for his involvement in Wolves’ winner at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche will be hoping that his stopper’s display against Sheffield United can, however, inspire him to up his game more regularly and help his team find their first league victory of the campaign.

There is no question about the fact that Pickford is going to be integral to the club achieving more than they have over the past couple of seasons and he will be looking to build upon his recent performance next time he puts on the Blues shirt.
