Everton already want to get rid of Andre Gomes after Demarai Gray

Everton are still hoping to offload Andre Gomes this month, with the Portuguese earning £120,000 a week at Goodison Park, according to Team Talk.

The news outlet reported on Wednesday (6 September) that Sean Dyche is not keen on the former Barcelona midfielder and is keen to find a solution to see him exit Goodison Park in the next month, having spent last season on loan with Lille.

Gomes was the subject of a failed late bid from the French club to secure his services for this season, while clubs in Saudi Arabia, Greece, Russia and Qatar hold an interest in the 30-year-old and have held talks that have given the Toffees confidence they can offload him this summer.

Everton would prefer to complete a permanent sale of the Portuguese international, but with his staggeringly high wages, they would also be open to sanctioning a temporary exit this summer to have him off of the books as he could follow Demarai Gray out of the club.

Huge wages

The financial situation at Goodison Park is so dire that the Toffees simply cannot afford to have Gomes earning that amount of money without even playing this season and they must do everything they can to move him on sooner rather than later.

When Gomes arrived on Merseyside he was seen as a genuine quality addition to the middle of the park as a full International with experience at one of the biggest clubs in the world, the decision to make his temporary switch permanent was deemed correct by almost everybody.

But that was a very different Everton side in 2019, one that had never even been close to a relegation battle, rather than the financially stricken side currently playing at Goodison Park who need to save every penny they can as they avoid the drop to the Championship.

Everton

The 30-year-old has had rotten luck, suffering a horrid ankle injury against Tottenham in 2019 that left many wondering if he’d manage to play professional football again. Although he has recovered excellently he doesn’t fit the bill at Goodison and on that sort of wage, the Toffees can’t keep paying him to be left out of squads.

Hopefully, Everton can recoup some of the fee they spent on him and find him a new club before it’s too late and they’re stuck paying an extremely high wage until at least January.
