Jarrad Branthwaite reveals Beto ‘trait’ that can boost Everton this season
Beto’s ability to hold up the ball and play in the channels is a “trait” that can boost Everton this season, according to defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
The Toffees signed the Portuguese striker from Serie A outfit Udinese with just days remaining in the transfer window, tying him down to a four-year contract in a deal worth a reported £25million (29 August, Sky Sports News).
Since arriving, he has so far made two appearances for the club, scoring on his debut during a victory over Doncaster Rovers in the second round of the Carabao Cup and helping his side earn a point at Bramall Lane in a 2-2 draw with Sheffield United.

And his teammate Branthwaite is clearly already a fan, based on the 21-year-old’s quotes that have been reported by the Liverpool Echo (6 September).
“He (Beto) was a massive influence. You saw (against Sheffield United) how he held the ball up and ran the channels as well, and he is strong and powerful and he can finish,” the defender said.
“Bringing him into the team gives us a massive confidence boost. He brings it into his feet and keeps it well, and he can spin in the channels and he gets there.
“It’s such a trait for us and him to be able to play both of those balls. It helps from pressure and getting up the pitch.”
Impact
It is quite encouraging to see how quickly Beto has settled into his surroundings, especially considering he hasn’t even made his home debut at Goodison Park yet. Life on Merseyside has started with two away trips for the forward, during which he is so far unbeaten.
Prior to his arrival, Sean Dyche’s men were without any points or even a goal during their opening three games of the Premier League season. However, since their new number nine has come into the team, they have four goals in two games. It is clear that in the little time he has been with the Toffees, he is already making a big impact.

It will offer supporters a sense of optimism that they can start to turn their season around. With the international break ongoing, and Beto not called up to represent his nation, he has the opportunity to continue settling in at Finch Farm and when Everton are next in action, he could be set to make an even greater impact than he already has.
