Journalist shares surprising Everton transfer verdict as ‘happy’ Sean Dyche claim made

Everton manager Sean Dyche will be “happy” to have signed creative players Jack Harrison and Arnaut Danjuma, according to journalist Alex Keble.

Both wingers have arrived at Goodison Park on season-long loans, the former joining from Leeds United and the latter from Villarreal.

However, Keble noted that the Toffees are surprisingly light when it comes to their midfield after Alex Iwobi was sold to Fulham.

“Beto, who scored on his debut in the EFL Cup against Doncaster Rovers and found the net on 10 occasions for Udinese in Serie A last season, is an important addition, while Dyche will also be happy with the creativity added by Harrison and Danjuma,” Keble wrote for the official Premier League website (5 September).

“But Everton’s goalscoring problems have distracted from their poor defensive record. They have conceded 37 goals in 22 league matches under Dyche but only signed one defender, full-back Young.

“Surprisingly, Everton are also short on numbers in midfield, now that Alex Iwobi has been sold to Fulham. Beyond Abdoulaye Doucoure, Idrissa Gueye, and Amadou Onana, Everton don’t have any senior midfielders until Dele Alli is fit.”

Good window?

Everton supporters may have fixed feelings about how their club did in the summer transfer window, which was always going to be difficult given the financial issues at Goodison Park.

Toffees manager Dyche certainly got rid of some dead wood on Merseyside, with the likes of Asmir Begovic, Tom Davies, Yerry Mina and Andros Townsend all being released.

Moreover, players such as Ellis Simms and Iwobi were sold for significant fees, with Neal Maupay and Mason Holgate leaving Goodison temporarily.

Those exits freed up both space and finances for Dyche to bring in the likes of Beto and Youssef Chermiti on permanent deals, with both strikers set to play key roles in the final third in the months to come.

However, there will still be many Everton fans unhappy with the dealings in the summer transfer window, mainly due to the club’s disastrous start to the new Premier League season. After four matches, the Toffees have just one point to their name, and currently sit in the relegation zone.
