Journalist shares Everton update as off-field issues become ‘unsettling for players’
Everton continue to face an uncertain future off the pitch and it has begun to unsettle the players at Goodison Park, according to Paul Brown.
The journalist explained to Give Me Sport (10 September) the current struggles the Toffees are experiencing as they wait to find out whether or not they breached the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules when they appear for their hearing in October.
With potential investors MSP Sports Capital also withdrawing from talks, there is plenty happening off the field and in the boardroom for fans and players to be worried about.

Explaining the current situation, Brown said: “It can’t be good for the club to have all this uncertainty raging off the pitch with an owner who is trying to sell. There is a boardroom full of people who may not be around for much longer.
“It’s unclear what the decision-making processes are between the executives. All this is very messy and unsettling for players. They made a really bad start to the season. Considering the fixtures they had to open the campaign, you looked at those and you thought, okay, that should be a fairly easy way into the season comparatively.”
Needs sorting
The Everton fans and players haven’t been able to sit comfortably for several seasons at Goodison Park, but it is becoming almost impossible to see how Sean Dyche is meant to improve this side’s fortunes while the off-field issues continue to rumble on.
The Toffees had another difficult transfer window as they have to stay within financial limits, with the likes of Alex Iwobi and Demarai Gray moving on to try and alleviate the burden, thus weakening an already light squad available to Dyche as he looks to fight off relegation.

While due diligence must be taken when finding new investors or owners, Everton could certainly do with some clarity over the situation. By doing so, it increases the chances that Everton can stave off a third successive fight against relegation this term.
For the players to be unsettled as Brown suggests shows just how big an impact the current precarious future of the Toffees is having on the entire football club.
