Andre Gomes shopped for Everton exit with costly resolution now ‘more than likely’ – Paul Brown

Andre Gomes is “clearly being shopped” for a move away from Everton with a loan to Turkey or Russia on the cards, according to Paul Brown.

The former Daily Star journalist said when speaking to GIVEMESPORT (11 September) that the Portuguese midfielder “doesn’t want to be stuck” at Goodison Park when he isn’t going to play but his high wages are a “potential problem” when it comes to a deal.

With fewer and fewer transfer windows still open Brown expects a loan departure to be arranged with Everton still having to pay a proportion of the 30-year-old’s salary.

Brown said: “Andre Gomes has only made the bench once this season. He is 30 years old and his contract is up next summer. He’s not going to play for this team and he is way down the pecking order.

“His wages are quite high and that is a potential problem, but I think he is clearly still being shopped. There aren’t that many windows still open.

“There’s the Turkish window and the Russian window, so I think that there may be teams where a loan could be arranged to take some of his wages off the books.

“I suspect that Everton would have to continue to fund some of his salary if he is to move on loan. It doesn’t look like there’s going to be an offer of a permanent deal on the table because I think if that had been possible, it would have materialised by now.

“It’s more than likely they find a loan move for him somewhere but, obviously, time is running out. I’m pretty sure the player doesn’t really want to be stuck at Everton knowing that he’s not going to play.”

Last resort

It goes without saying that paying a player thought to be earning £120,000-a-week at Goodison Park [Liverpool Echo] to do nothing makes little sense.

So if Sean Dyche hasn’t got any plans for him on Merseyside the club should be ready to snap any interested party’s hand off to move him somewhere that he will actually play this season.

There was a suggestion that Lille were trying to bring him back on transfer deadline day but the move fell through due to an inability to replace the former Barcelona man, but why Everton would need cover for someone who hasn’t played for them since two seasons ago makes little sense.

Everton

Now with Turkish interest mooted [Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, 11 September] it is surely on the cards for Gomes to head there if any club is willing to pay even part of the wages.

It is still far from ideal to be throwing bad money after good on a pricey player whose Toffees career looks to have been ruined long ago by injury but it is better than nothing if he has no prospects under Dyche.

As he is now in the final year of his contract the end is now in sight for both parties one way or another, and an opportunity for him to get games while the club save some money in the mean time would be the least bad option.

In other Everton news, £100m that was scheduled to come in hasn’t done so for an “unknown reason” which is a “big concern” for the club.
