‘Saviour’ Beto to ‘rescue the club’ as Farhad Moshiri leaves Everton parting gift – Martin Keown

Beto could “rescue” Everton this season with Farhad Moshiri’s final signing for the club potentially being “one of the best ones”, according to Martin Keown.

Speaking live on talkSPORT, Keown called the summer signing a “saviour”, who could switch the fortunes at Goodison Park during their tough Premier League campaign.

The £26million signing has impressed in his early Everton career, but Keown has tipped him to improve even further, suggesting he could be a parting gift to the club ahead of the 777 Partners takeover being completed.

Keown said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo (15 September, 17:55): “I actually think Beto might just rescue the club this season. He might be a saviour for them and it could be Moshiri’s last signing that ultimately turns out to be maybe one of the best ones.”

High praise

It will take a lot for a single player to shift the fortunes at Goodison Park, but Keown has backed the Portuguese forward to be a huge influence this season.

Everton’s biggest on-pitch issue this season has been scoring goals, with the Toffees finding themselves in 18th place and the joint-lowest scorers after four Premier League games.

Beto has had an encouraging start to life on Merseyside. While clearly not quite at his best, little sparks of brilliance have given the Goodison Park faithful enough to get behind him.

He got his first goal just 28 minutes into his debut as a half-time substitute in Everton’s League Cup victory over Doncaster Rovers. In the league, he is yet to net but has looked lively and has shown his skill at keeping the ball and stretching the opposition defence.

Partnered with loanee Arnaut Danjuma, Sean Dyche will hope his two new boys can get the Toffees back to consistent scoring ways as soon as possible. Things have changed off the pitch at the club after they announced 777 have agreed a takeover (15 September), so perhaps Moshiri’s final signing can help facilitate changes on it.

There is plenty of the season to go yet, but perhaps Goodison has its new “saviour”.
