Everton midfielder Andre Gomes may have Achilles issue, to miss Aston Villa game – Injury Expert
We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Everton...
Everton midfielder Andre Gomes may have something more serious than a mere calf injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert reacted to Sean Dyche’s comments about the Portugal international where he labelled his absence as “calf tightness”.
However, the 30-year-old is not expected to miss weeks together because of that and it could even mean an Achilles concern, although that has not been confirmed.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Goodison News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:
“Based on not playing this season, unless that’s purely a managerial decision, it does sound more like an overt injury than just calf tightness.
“Calf injuries are also notoriously sensitive and prone to re-injury.
“The other consideration is ‘calf’ can refer to the entire calf complex which also includes structures like the Achilles which is far more grave.
“He’s not expected back this week so can rule him out.”

The Toffees take on Aston Villa in the EFL Cup on 27 September at Villa Park.
Dyche’s side are on the back of a 3-1 victory against Brentford in the Premier League and will be hoping to keep the momentum.
Cup games are the sort of occasions for fringe players to get a chance to play but it does not seem like one for Gomes.
In other Everton news, a condition has now emerged on Sean Dyche being sacked amid trouble behind the scenes at Goodison Park.
