Jack Harrison verdict emerges in Everton debut v Aston Villa
Jack Harrison was “relentless” in the first half of his Everton debut in their League Cup clash against Aston Villa, according to Joe Thomas.
Taking to X (27 September), the Liverpool Echo journalist praised Harrison for his shrewd attacking play which caused Villa centre-back Pau Torres plenty of problems.
The Toffees took a well-earned lead in the 15th minute after their high press offered James Garner the chance to score his first Toffees goal, but the Leeds United loanee impressed.
Thomas said: “Jack Harrison showing no signs of rustiness at all here. He is relentless on his debut, giving Pau Torres nightmares in this first half.”
Great debut
After coming back from an injury sustained while at Leeds, Harrison had a fantastic first half at Villa Park.
The Toffees started the match as the much better side, with Unai Emery’s side looking surprisingly lacklustre considering their excellent start to the Premier League season.
Sean Dyche’s men will be riding high on confidence after their emphatic, and needed, league triumph over Brentford in a 3-1 away victory at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Harrison has finally been deemed fit to get some senior minutes in his legs after playing for 45 minutes for the Everton under-21 side last week, but his first-team debut will have Toffees fans hoping he can replicate this form in the league.
The Toffees entered the break 1-0 up after outshooting the Villans with seven shots to their three, despite having significantly less of the ball. The Toffees did miss three chances in the opening 45 minutes, but the signs were there that Dyche could have his side back on form [SofaScore].
