David Ornstein responds to Everton takeover question, ‘critical time’ ahead
The Athletic journalist David Ornstein has given his latest verdict on the ongoing takeover bid from 777 Partners, claiming it is a “critical time” for Everton in their current financial state.
Ornstein shared the need for patience around the takeover despite confidence from the club and buyers that everything will go through, as the necessary checks and assessments need to be carried out.
Given the financial situation at the club and the ongoing build of the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium, the mood around Goodison Park is a nervous one, although recent victories on the pitch will have lifted spirits.

Replying to a question about the takeover via The Athletic’s Q&A live blog, Ornstein wrote: “There is confidence at Everton and 777 that this will get done and they want it done before the January transfer window. But, as we know, it’s not up to them – so we’ll have to be patient over the coming weeks and months.
“Make no mistake, this is a critical time for the club given their financial situation and the new stadium build.
“Suffice to say, their last two results will have helped lift the spirits and they will feel they have a great chance to go 3/3 at home to Luton on Saturday.”
Worries continue to grow, but it’s out of everybody’s control
Worries will continue to grow at Goodison Park until a decision is made surrounding the takeover. It feels as if there is a new story every day with a threat of administration, player sales, or further financial punishments to be handed out, but the only ones with any control are the panels assessing the takeover.

At the end of the day, the only thing that can be done at Everton is to hope everything goes smoothly and put the focus on what’s happening on the pitch. Sean Dyche and his team have recorded two victories in their last two games, easing their own nerves as things stand.
The news that it’s a critical time financially will not be a huge shock, and there are measures being put in place to ease the situation, but the result of the takeover will of course make a huge difference.
Confidence both from the club and from 777 Partners should be taken at face value, they would not have moved this far in the process without a level of confidence they will be successful, and the club and its fans can only wait and see where it goes.
