Paul Merson predicts Everton vs Luton Town result as Dominic Calvert-Lewin relegation prediction

Paul Merson has predicted the run of strong form Everton are now in to continue with a big win against Luton Town this weekend.

The Sky Sports pundit said in his prediction for Sportskeeda on 28 September that the Toffees could be set for a run of victoriess now with Bournemouth on the horizon the following week, after being impressed by the win at Brentford followed by the Carabao Cup victory at Aston Villa.

Merson has tipped Sean Dyche’s men to secure a 3-0 result against the struggling promoted side when they arrive at Goodison Park on Saturday (30 September).

Everton

Merson said: “How quickly does football change, eh? Everton struggled to do anything meaningful in the opening weeks of the new season, but they beat Brentford in the Premier League last weekend and topped it off with an impressive win away from home against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup.

“They have Bournemouth coming up after Luton, so Sean Dyche and co have a big chance to rack up some points on the board with a run of wins. They need to kick on and I think they’ll do just that, so I’m going for a 3-0 Everton win.

“If Everton keep Dominic Calvert-Lewin fit and firing, there’s absolutely no chance they will be in and around the relegation zone.”

The Toffees have turned their fortunes around in the space of a week and could soon be looking pretty good for once if they follow up the two recent wins by going on a run in fixtures that look inviting ahead of the Merseyside derby on 21 October.

It is impossible to downplay the significance of Calvert-Lewin’s influence, but it won’t come as any surprise to the Evertonians who have been deprived of their star striker with such regularity over the past couple of years.

Two goals in two games for the England international has helped lift the mood considerably, and two away wins against tough opposition is something that would have seemed virtually impossible during recent struggles.

Everton

Nobody, including Calvert-Lewin himself, will be getting ahead of themselves in terms of him being able to remain available for the foreseeable future given the terrible luck he has had.

But with Beto in place to fill his shoes now, and other attacking options such as Jack Harrison coming back from injury, suddenly it seems like the side is building some confidence.

Everton have been better away from home of late and, for once, they will be clear favourites against winless Luton so they must not let the expectation of a win in front of the home fans derail their recent progress.

Capitalising on their good work to potentially climb into mid-table would be extremely welcome right now, and based on their last two matches there is no reason why they can’t do so.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have been given a “get out of jail free card” this year to avoid the same danger of the previous two campaigns says another Sky Sports pundit.
