Sky Sports journalist blasts ‘desperate’ Everton after ‘nasty reality check’ v Luton Town
Everton were handed a “nasty reality check” in their 2-1 loss to Luton Town, according to Sky Sports journalist Ben Grounds.
The Hatters picked up their first Premier League win of the season with their three points at Goodison Park on Saturday (30 September).
Tom Lockyer and Carlton Morris netted for the visitors, with Toffees striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin on target for the home side.

“Co-founders of 777 Partners Josh Wander and Steve Pasko were in attendance at Goodison Park along with Don Dransfield, the CEO of the 777 Football Group, but they witnessed the size of the task ahead to turn Everton back into a force in English football – despite 23 attempts on goal,” Grounds wrote for Sky Sports.
“Fourteen of those were off target. It was all so desperate, no finesse, and too frantic. This was a nasty reality check for Everton.”

Tough one to take
Everton’s prospective new owners 777 Partners were perhaps optimistic going into the match, despite what they have seen from the Toffees in recent times.
Sean Dyche’s men had just defeated both Brentford and Aston Villa, winning 3-1 against the former and 2-1 against the latter.
The win against the Bees came in the league, and that was followed by that superb victory against Villa in the League Cup third round.
But the Merseyside outfit were sent crashing back down to earth against Luton, with the defeat made worse given how it came at Goodison Park and given how the Hatters had not won a single game since being promoted from the Championship.
They are now level on four points with Everton, having played a game fewer, with both clubs enduring miserable starts to the new season.
777 Partners will be desperate for a quick upturn in form, otherwise they may just be having serious second thoughts about their impending takeover.
