Everton slammed after ‘unwanted record’ suffered in loss v Luton Town, pressure ‘back on’
The pressure is “back on” Everton after they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Luton Town, according to journalist Alex Keble.
The Toffees lost at home to the newly promoted side on Saturday (30 September), with the win representing Luton’s first of the campaign.
The defeat leaves Sean Dyche’s side sitting 16th in the Premier League table, having won just one of their seven matches so far.

“Everton have now conceded four set-piece goals, the joint-most in the Premier League this season,” Keble wrote for the official Premier League website. “More importantly, the momentum that they had built with back-to-back wins over the previous week has dissipated.
“Here was a sudden reversion to type as Everton scored only once from an xG of 2.9 – another dramatic underachievement – to give Sean Dyche’s side the unwanted record of four defeats from their first four home matches in 2023/24.
“Only once before in their history have Everton done that, way back in 1958/59. The pressure is back on. The home match against AFC Bournemouth next Saturday feels, once again, like a must-win contest.”

Disaster
Everton have been simply shocking so far this season, but their home form is particularly worrying. Fulham, Wolves, Arsenal and now Luton have all come to Goodison Park this season and left with all three points.
In his summer plans, Dyche would have been keen to make the stadium a fortress, but that has been far from the case.
Clubs are rocking up on Merseyside and laughing in the faces of the Everton faithful, who by now are undoubtedly losing patience with the man in the dugout.
It is still too early for a change of personnel, with the manager needing more time to work with his squad, but it would not be a surprise to see the powers that be at Goodison take action sooner rather than later.
Bournemouth make the trip to Merseyside next, and three points must be the only outcome for the home side given how the Cherries currently sit below them in the table.
In other Everton news, a Sky Sports journalist has blasted the Toffees after a “nasty reality check” against Luton.
