Jarrad Branthwaite clause in new contract at Everton emerges

Jarrad Branthwaite does not have a release clause in his new Everton contract, which runs until 2027 with the option of another year according to Patrick Boyland.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (6 October), The Athletic journalist reports that the Toffees will have the option to extend the England Under-21 defender’s contract by a further 12 months after he initially penned a four-year deal.

Branthwaite has attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City after his form for PSV Eindhoven last year and Everton this season, but his future is firmly in the hands of those in charge at Goodison Park now.

“As part of new agreement, Everton have the option to extend Branthwaite’s deal by an additional year to 2028,” he wrote. “No release clause.

“Has shown great potential since coming into the side, drawing praise from Dyche and teammates.”

Excellent

Branthwaite was a wanted man in the summer with PSV Eindhoven looking to take him back to the Netherlands after his successful loan spell last year, and he’s wanted by top clubs again now.

But Everton have moved quickly and smartly to tie him down to a new long-term contract and with the information that there is no release clause and it’s actually a five-year deal in reality, we are in a fantastic position with his future.

Everton

Right now Branthwaite is still learning his trade and coming to grips with the Premier League. However, he has got his best years ahead of him without a doubt and that’s only a good thing for Everton.

He has drawn comparisons to John Stones and considering Everton got £50m from him so many years ago, if Branthwaite continues his development at his current rate then there is no reason we can’t be looking at a similar fee in the future for him.

Or, better yet, we improve as a team and keep him at the club through his peak years as we push up the table and get back to where we belong in the top end of the top flight and in Europe.
