Brian Sorensen shocked by Everton Women loss, calls for team to take positives
Everton Women boss Brian Sorensen was shocked as his side failed to take their chances in the 1-0 Women’s Super League defeat to Leicester at the King Power on Sunday 8 October.
Sorensen claimed he had no idea how his side had managed to lose the game with the amount of chances they created, and stated that they should not be losing to sides like this Leicester team.
The Toffees saw a penalty saved, a goal disallowed for offside, and had plenty of chances to open the scoring before Lena Petermann put Leicester ahead, and the hosts clung on to take all three points.

Speaking to Everton’s official website after the game, a bemused Sorensen claimed: “I have no idea how we lost that game. We should easily have scored three or four goals, but it was just not supposed to be, unfortunately.
“I think we did everything right in terms of getting there and then we had one weak moment and they capitalised on it, so it’s tough.
“Performance-wise I think we were much better than last week over the 90 minutes and the chances we created were unreal, but it didn’t want to go in.
“It is what it is, there’s not much we can do right now, we can regroup and look forward, and make sure we don’t allow this to happen. I’ll have to see the game back, I don’t know how we lost it, but we did so that’s how it is.
“We just have to look back at it and see what we can do to not be in a situation like this because when I look at that Leicester team, we should never, ever, ever lose. But we did. It’s tough right now, right after the game, but we’ll look at the positives and make sure we’re ready for Wednesday.”

Keep playing like that and results will follow
Unfortunately for Everton, these results can happen. Despite their dominance over the full 90 minutes, they simply couldn’t convert their chances, and probably wouldn’t have if they were still playing now.
It’s just the way the game goes sometimes, but they have to take comfort from how dominant they were and know that if they continue playing the way they have done this season, results will follow. On another day, Everton win this three or four-nil, it just wasn’t to be.
There are some tough fixtures coming up as the Toffees face Manchester City on Wednesday [11 October], followed by Liverpool on 15 October, so they will feel they have missed out on an opportunity for three points at the King Power.
The result meant they are still yet to claim their first points of the season, having also lost to Brighton on the opening day, and it will be a challenge to get anything from their next two either.
