Journalist shares one of ‘supposed benefits’ of 777 Partners model, Everton top of the ‘food chain’
Liverpool Echo journalist Chris Beesley explained how the use of “shared data” is one of the “supposed benefits” of the multi-club model employed by potential Everton owners 777 Partners.
The Miami-based investment firm have agreed a deal in principle to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s 94 per cent stake in the club, though all the relevant parties still need to give the green light to the deal.
Plenty of potential issues have been raised surrounding the deal, but Beesly – writing in the Liverpool Echo (9 October) – took a deeper look at how the model is supposed to work.
“One of the supposed benefits of being part of a multi-club group is the use of shared data,” he wrote.
“If 777’s purchase is approved after the period of regulatory review, they would be joining a football ‘family’ that also includes teams from Italy (Genoa); Belgium (Standard Liege); France (Red Star); Brazil (Vasco da Gama); Australia (Melbourne Victory) and Germany (Hertha BSC).
“However, Stamford-based (Mladen) Sormaz, 777’s director of football analytics, would provide Everton with a domestic perspective having previously spent three years as Leicester City’s head of football analytics between 2019-22 after spending the 2018/19 season as Huddersfield Town’s first team data analyst.”
He added: “While 777 Partners insist that they don’t prioritise when it comes to how they treat their different clubs, given that Everton operate in the Premier League, the richest domestic division in world football, they would instantly find themselves at the top of the group’s food chain but regardless of who you are dealing with, Sormaz maintains there are some key tips to follow.”

There are examples of multi-club models working, just look at the City Group who – as well as owning the jewel in the crown Manchester City – have clubs dotted all over the world.
Of course, the benefit for City is the mega-rich backing of their Abu Dhabi owners, so the situations are not necessarily comparable and some of the fears raised by issues experienced by other clubs in the 777 model is of course a concern.
Everton fans will want more assurances about the direction and commitment to the cause from 777, who will also need to convince the Premier League they are fit and proper owners.
On the pitch, a fine performance in a 3-0 win over Bournemouth saw Everton end a run of four straight home defeats to start their Premier League season, and they will hope to continue that feelgood factor after the international break. Perhaps things can finally start moving in the right direction now.
