Everton have long way to go despite positive Premier League statistic, second only to Tottenham

Everton have really struggled in the current Premier League campaign, with the club on just seven points from their eight matches.

Those points have come from two wins and one draw, with Sean Dyche’s side losing their other five games. And it won’t get any easier for the Toffees, with fierce rivals Liverpool up next at Anfield after the international break.

A positive has, however, emerged regarding the blue half of Merseyside, with Everton remarkably ranking second in the Premier League for shots this season, according to BBC Sport.

League leaders Tottenham are miles ahead of the rest on 153, but second in the pile are the Toffees with 133. That figure is above the likes of Manchester City and Brighton (both 131) Manchester United (130) and city rivals Liverpool (129).

However, the club’s position in the table proves that simply taking shots is not the be-all and end-all, with only six clubs having a worse shots on target rate than Everton’s 43.56%.

Still, given how the Toffees are keeping the pace with top-of-the-table Tottenham better than anyone else, Dyche should be able to feel some confidence in his players.

The shots on target rate, however, clearly must improve if the Merseyside outfit are to climb the standings as the months go on.

It won’t be easy to deal with the pressure of finding the back of the net, but strikers Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Beto and Youssef Chermiti have to take on the responsibility and start firing in the goals.

In other Everton news, a BBC Sport journalist has mooted an international “breakthrough” for one Toffees youngster.
