Everton to make transfer decision on Youssef Chermiti if 777 takeover is approved

Everton may sanction a loan exit for Youssef Chermiti if the proposed takeover from 777 Partners gets the green light, according to journalist Mark Douglas.

Writing for i news on Monday (16 October), Douglas said Chermiti – who arrived from Sporting Lisbon in a reported £15million deal in August (BBC Sport) – is a player who the Toffees view as a player for the long term.

However, he has managed only 26 Premier League minutes thus far, appearing off the bench three times but yet to start in the top flight.

Douglas explained that if circumstances change following a takeover, a decision may be taken to allow Chermiti to get some regular football elsewhere to continue his development.

“Whether that means he is ready for the cut and thrust of league football is unclear but back in his homeland, they are convinced of his potential. For all that his move might be a slow burner, Everton’s foresight is admired,” Douglas wrote.

“i understands that if the 777 Partners takeover progresses, theoretically releasing funds for squad building, Chermiti could be allowed to leave on loan to collect first-team minutes. But he remains a long-term project that the club are committed to.”

Makes sense

Everton had a pretty difficult summer transfer window with their well-documented off-field financial issues having a knock-on effect with their ability to sign players.

But the Toffees did eventually end up reinforcing a forward line that was badly in need of additions, with Arnaut Danjuma and Jack Harrison arriving on loan and Beto joining on a full deal from Udinese.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin also finding some fluidity after long-standing injury issues it has meant Chermiti has been used pretty sparingly so far.

That is not to say he cannot be a success at Everton, indeed it is good to see the Toffees showing some foresight in the transfer market and looking towards the future, rather than throwing money at expensive flops.

A temporary move away from Goodison Park could end up being beneficial for all parties, though with a pretty thin squad as it is, manager Sean Dyche will want to make sure he is well covered before sanctioning such a deal.
