Jack Harrison shares ‘difficult’ admission after Everton loan move from Leeds United

Jack Harrison concedes it was “difficult” having to move his rehab treatment after joining Everton on loan from Leeds United during the summer transfer window.

The winger was involved in a transfer twist when he moved to Goodison Park after it emerged he had a clause inserted into a new contract signed at Elland Road until 2028 in April (BBC Sport) allowing him to depart on loan if the club were relegated.

Everton took advantage of the clause but Harrison made the switch when he was still out injured with a hip injury and only made his first Premier League start in the 3-0 victory over Bournemouth prior to the international break, a match in which he scored.

“It’s been a tough period with my injury. Everyone at Leeds was great with my rehab, but changing over can be difficult at times,” Harrison told Everton’s official website (16 October).

“The staff here have been brilliant with me, helping me to get to the condition I’m in now – maybe a little bit before expected. It’s a credit to them, a credit to the staff at Leeds, as well, and a credit to the coaching staff here for providing that opportunity for me.

“It’s something I’ve been working really hard for, and they’ve given me that opportunity. I was really grateful to have the experience against Bournemouth, and I’m hoping to carry on.”

Difference maker

Everton’s precarious financial position off the pitch obviously hindered the type of business they could conclude during another tricky transfer window in the summer.

But the surprise news that Harrison, like several other players at Leeds, had a clause in his contract allowing him to depart on loan following their drop into the Championship ended up being a huge boost for Sean Dyche.

Frustratingly, he did arrive at Goodison Park injured but when fit Harrison can be a real gem for this Everton side, with his ability to create and score goals a real difference maker as they aim to climb the table and avoid a third straight relegation battle.

It is little surprise that he found things a little tough having been used to working with one medical team then having to start working with another but, hopefully, now the worst of his injury problems are behind him.

If they are he can stay fit then Harrison can be a hugely important part of this Everton side, and let’s hope there is plenty more to come after his goal versus Bournemouth.
