Liverpool Echo journo shares unseen incident in Liverpool v Everton that left Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘furious’

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold was left “furious” after the match officials failed to take action following an alleged elbow from Everton forward Beto, according to journalist Paul Gorst.

Alexander-Arnold felt he was deliberately caught by Everton substitute Beto in the second half of Liverpool’s 2-0 win at Anfield on Saturday (21 October).

Gorst shared details on what happened in the aftermath of the incident in his “moments you may have missed” article for the Liverpool Echo (22 October).

Everton

“The Liverpool vice-captain was seen gesturing that he had been elbowed in the face to the fourth official near the touchline moments after going down with a loud yelp after a clash with Everton striker Beto,” he wrote.

“The Reds defender was furious that more wasn’t made of what he clearly thought was an elbow from the Blues forward and made a motion towards the official on the touchline.

“Referee Craig Pawson did not deem it worthy enough to take a second look, however, despite Alexander-Arnold’s visible annoyance.”

Get over it

This was not the only occasion cry baby Alexander-Arnold vented his frustration towards the officials, having also done so early in the second half when a penalty shout went against Liverpool.

Incredibly, the Liverpool vice-captain avoided a caution from Pawson despite getting in the referee’s face.

You cannot knock Alexander-Arnold for showing passion in a Merseyside derby, but the way he desperately tried to – presumably – get Beto sent off was just silly.

Everton

There was little in the incident, so much so that the officials did not feel the need to look back at what happened.

It was a day to forget for Everton, of course, as they went on to lose 2-0 with Beto managing just one shot during his 30 minutes or so on the field.

The Toffees must now quickly move on and respond with a positive result away at West Ham next weekend.

In other Everton news, journalist Oliver Kay has dropped a “chaos” verdict with regards to the Toffees’ boardroom situation.
