Ex-Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson rages at ‘poisonous’ Everton fans in tribute to Bill Kenwright
Joe Anderson has taken aim at the Everton fans as he paid tribute to Bill Kenwright following the announcement of his death.
After the Toffees revealed the chairman had passed away, aged 78, in a statement on their website on Tuesday (24 October), the former Mayor of Liverpool said it was the “poisonous cancer of so-called fans personally attacking him” that hurt him the most and “broke his heart”.
He added that Kenwright’s dedication and loyalty was “unquestionable” and that he “deserved better” than the way he was treated during his time at Goodison Park.
Bad taste
This tweet is in extremely bad taste and is completely unnecessary at this moment in time from someone who really should know better following his previous high-profile position in Liverpool.
The relationship between the fans and the board in general has soured in recent years, but just about everyone associated with Everton will be feeling his loss this evening.
He has been a huge figure at the club over the past couple of decades, having been the longest-serving chairman in more than a century.

There is absolutely no need for Anderson to be taking cheap swipes at the fans as a whole in what is a tough moment for the Blues.
There will be an outpouring of support from the footballing world over the course of the next few days and Kenwright will no doubt receive a huge tribute from the fans at Goodison Park.
In other Everton news, Jim White and Alan Myers have paid tribute to Kenwright.
