Everton Women captain Megan Finnigan pays touching tribute to Bill Kenwright

Everton Women captain Megan Finnigan has paid a touching tribute to the late Everton chairman Bill Kenwright after he sadly passed away on 23 October.

Kenwright had been on the board at Everton since 1989, nine years before Finnigan was even born as she commented in her statement, and took over as Chairman in 2004.

Finnigan has joined plenty of big names from the footballing world in paying tribute to the late chairman, who will be dearly missed by everybody involved with the club.

The statement made via the official club website on 25 October read: “Bill Kenwright epitomised the values of our football club. His love for Everton was impossible to ignore.

“He was a family man – and those connected to Everton were his family too.

“The Chairman has been involved with the club for as long as I can remember. He helped to move Everton forward, drive change and wanted nothing more than to see our club succeed.

“Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and everyone who knew him at this incredibly sad time.”

Another touching tribute

With each new tribute delivered by the many within football who knew him, you begin to realise just how big of an influence Kenwright had on all of those who knew him.

Finnigan’s comment about how he epitomised the values of the football club will ring strongly among the Women’s team, with their official link to the club established during his tenure on the board of directors in 1995, when they were renamed Everton Ladies Football Club.

The tribute touched on his love for the club and everybody involved, and the number of heartwarming tributes to him since his passing has been a true display of the effect he had on all of those around him.

Finnigan joined Brian Sorensen and the rest of the Everton Women’s team in laying a wreath at the Finch Farm training ground in tribute to Kenwright, as pictures were shared on the club’s official website.
