Peter Reid blasts Premier League for ‘Crazy’ points deduction demands in Everton FFP case

Peter Reid has blasted the Premier League for pushing for Everton to receive a points deduction in their FFP case, calling it “crazy”.

The Toffees were charged in March for a single breach of the rules, and The Telegraph report (25 October) that the Premier League are pushing for a 12-point deduction from the independent panel.

But Reid, a blues legend and former Premier League manager, took to his personal Twitter account (27 October) to react to the news and said a deduction would only punish the fans.

“The Premier League pushing for a points deduction?” he wrote.

“That would only punish the fans. And would be out of line with other punishments.

“It would be crazy!”

Shocking

This is a super important case in the history of the Premier League, because it’s the first time that a club has been charged with an FFP breach.

But they are digging a hole for themselves because Everton were operating with an open-book nature and working alongside the league, so any spending would have had to be signed off by them first.

Everton

On top of that there is the case of Manchester City which has seen 115 charges brought against them and yet everything is very quiet there, while Chelsea are also under investigation after their new owners reported some dodgy accounting too.

Giving us a 12-point deduction for a single charge would set a horrendous precedent and no doubt send us into turmoil with relegation all but confirmed the second that punishment is handed down.

The fans have done nothing wrong and if the league did their jobs properly and ensured owners couldn’t leave clubs in these positions then this wouldn’t be happening to begin with. It would be mental and hopefully the independent panel see sense.
