Arnaut Danjuma at risk of Everton freeze-out already at Goodison Park, clash v Burnley could be make or break

Arnaut Danjuma has had quite a miserable start to life at Everton.

Despite joining the Blues on loan from Villarreal in the summer after initially rejecting them in January in favour of Tottenham, 26-year-old Danjuma hasn’t been able to assert himself as a first-team regular at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell must have really wanted Danjuma to go back in for him after he embarrassed the club in January by opting to join Spurs on loan instead.

But so far, he’s only proven that faith to be misplaced.

Danjuma has played 10 times in all competitions for Everton this season, scoring two goals in the process.

However, he’s only started three times in the Premier League, grabbing his only league goal in one of them when he netted in a 2-2 draw ay Sheffield United in September.

Everton have won three of their last five Premier League games and Danjuma hasn’t started any of them. In fact, the Netherlands international didn’t play a minute of the last two wins versus Bournemouth and West Ham.

He did come off the bench against Luton and Liverpool – Everton’s last two losses.

It seems that there’s a threat that Danjuma will be frozen out by Dyche because ultimately, Everton are doing better without him and the winger is also only on loan.

There’s no option-to-buy clause in the loan deal with Villarreal [The Athletic] so the Blues aren’t going to see Danjuma as someone they need to choose ahead of others as he’s not a long-term option at Goodison.

The Toffees face Burnley in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night (1 November) and we expect Danjuma to start.

He started – and scored – against Doncaster in the second round and played 72 minutes of the 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the last round of the competition.

It could be make or break for him against Burnley before he ends up slipping into obscurity and potentially looks to exit his loan arrangement in January.
