BBC pundit blown away by Everton ‘leader’ James Tarkowski who is ‘underrated’ in Premier League

Everton defender James Tarkowski is “underrated” in the Premier League, according to BBC pundit Izzy Christiansen.

The centre-back has been a regular this season under manager Sean Dyche, having also played for the boss at Burnley.

The 30-year-old has played in all 10 of his club’s league matches this season, as well as their two League Cup games.

“I know Tarkowski quite well, and I know how he’s a top leader, but he’s also a top player,” Christiansen said on The Monday Night Club on BBC 5 Live Sport (30 October).

“And I think he’s quite underrated in the Premier League in terms of what he’s done. I think Everton have turned a corner, and I feel confident in saying that.”

Tarkowski has been a reliable player for manager Dyche for quite some time now, firstly starring for him at Turf Moor before doing the same at Goodison Park.

He has been handed the captain’s armband in the absence of the injured Seamus Coleman, and it is a role he has taken on effortlessly.

The Toffees have been very hard to break down this season, with Tarkowski playing a key role at the heart of the defence.

Moreover, the veteran has been the perfect role model for young centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, who has formed a solid partnership with Tarkowski.

Behind the duo, experienced goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has been in fine form, with the three players certain to be crucial to Everton’s fate this season.

Tarkowski has been a stalwart of the Premier League for several seasons, and at 30 years old, there are undoubtedly many more to come for the Toffees ace.

In other Everton news, Chris Sutton has shared a “realistic” Toffees expectation as a Premier League relegation claim is made by the pundit live on BBC.
