Michael Ball delighted for Dominic Calvert-Lewin after goal for Everton v West Ham United

Everton hero Michael Ball has shared his delight at Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s return to fitness after his goal in the win over West Ham.

The Toffees claimed a 1-0 win at the London Stadium with the England striker’s 50thPremier League goal the difference between the two sides, taking him to four goals in eight games this season.

And Ball, writing in his Liverpool Echo column (30 October) admitted the Everton attack has been “toothless” without him and praised his “brilliant” return to action.

“I can’t tell you how pleased I am for Calvert-Lewin after his latest goal for the club,” he said.

“It has been such a tough time for Dominic over the last 18 months due to his injury setbacks, which have had left us toothless in attack on every occasion.

“Every game since he has been back in the team, Calvert-Lewin has seemed sharper and fitter. He looks like he is enjoying his football again, which is brilliant to see.

“Being injured as a footballer is so frustrating, trust me. We are frustrated as fans with him being unavailable, as will be the case with Dyche, but no-one will have been disappointed at not being able to be out on the pitch representing the club than Dom himself.

“Calvert-Lewin’s current run of form is the reward for all the hard work he has been putting in behind the scenes that no-one gets to see or understands.”

Needed

Sean Dyche made it crystal clear that we needed more firepower in the summer and he made the squad stronger by signing the likes of Arnaut Danjuma, Jack Harrison, Beto and Youssef Chermiti.

But despite all of their arrivals, the most important man in the forward line for Dyche’s system is Calvert-Lewin because he has quality that nobody else has.

He’s able to hold the ball up well when leading the line on his own, is fantastic aerially, mobile enough to cover a lot of ground and press while also being lethal in front of goal.

His absence last season for the most part was a large reason as to why the club were in a big relegation battle, but Dyche seems to be winning his battle against fitness when it comes to the striker and it’s benefitting the club massively.

Another injury could certainly spell trouble for the team because we’re so much better with him in the side, so now we must just pray he can continue in this vein of form.
